Dr. Susan Welch comes from southern Michigan and has lived in the Fort Walton Beach area for over 10 years. She enjoys spending time with her husband of five years, Brian, and their three small children. Dr Welch has over 14 years of clinical experience and provides comprehensive diagnostics with the latest technology, sincerely caring about all your oral health care needs. She works closely with medical and dental specialists in our region, making sure you receive the absolute best care possible to reach maximum whole body health. She realizes that you have a choice, and wants to aide you in making the best decisions regarding your oral health care. To Dr Susan, you're more than a smile; you are a PERSON that has individual needs and concerns.
She came to the area via the military, where she served 7 years in United States Air Force Dental Corps, separating in 2003. This gives her an appreciation for the dedication our military and their families give to our country. She received a Bachelor of Science degree, graduating with honors, Cum Laude, in 1992 from Ball State University. Dr. Welch received a full-ride scholarship (athletic and academic) to BSU playing volleyball. She immediately progressed to graduate school in 1992 at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry. In 1996 she completed her Doctorate of Dental Surgery, (DDS) degree, and entered into the USAF via another academic scholarship that helped fund her graduate education.
In 1997, Dr. Welch completed a rigorous and comprehensive general dentistry residency program. During her time in the Air Force, she served in Osan, Korea, and Hurlburt Field. Dr. Welch was awarded the Air Force's top honor for their Junior Dental Officers (all Majors and Captains) in 1999, being named the Junior Dental Officer of the Year. She separated in 2003, to remain in the local area with her spouse. Brian will retire, after serving 21 years in Special Operations, April 30, 2010. She is very proud of his service to our country. Without him, she would not be able to achieve her goals of providing exceptional care for her patients, as well as being a Mommy to three toddlers (3 1/2 yr old girl, and twin boys who are 2 yrs old)...We're very busy.
Dr. Welch has achieved Fellowship status with the Academy of General Dentistry for her continuing education studies. Also, over the past six years, she has been focusing her continuing education on Temporal Mandibular Joint (TMJ) Disorders, Chronic Head and Neck Pain, as well as Sleep Apnea Appliance Therapy. She is currently involved in a Mini-Residency with intensive studies and testing with TMJ Disorders and Sleep Dentistry. Rounding out her knowledge base, she also is involved in an Orthodontic mini-residency, scheduled to complete in 2010.
She is an active member in the following: American Academy of Craniofacial Pain, American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine, American Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, Christian Medical Dental Association, and the American Academy of Women Dentist. She also is a member of Florida's and Okaloosa-Walton Dental Society affliates as she believes it is critical to support orgainzed dentistry.
Dr Welch believes in sharing her knowledge with other Dentists, presenting lectures to the local Dental Study Club (the 3rd oldest Study Club in Florida) with emphasis on "Screening for Sleep Breathing Disorders" and "Appliance Therapy for Obstructive Sleep Apnea and Snoring".
Wright Parkway Dental Center holds membership in the Fort Walton Beach Chamber of Commerce and is in Excellent Standing with the Better Business Bureau.
